The intent of Family Resource Centers (FRC) &/or Youth Service Centers (YSC) is to help students succeed in school by removing any barriers that may prevent them from doing their best. This is accomplished by providing services at school and by linking families to resources in the community.  Family Resource Centers are in elementary schools while Youth Service Centers are in middle and high schools.  Centers are grant funded, based on the number of students eligible for free school meals in a particular school.  Once established, all students enrolled in the school(s) which develop the Center can use its services, regardless of family income.  Our Center is a combined Family Resource & Youth Services Center (FRYSC) with offices at Rockfield Elementary and Henry Moss Middle.
We have many school supplies, including backpacks, which we provide to any student who needs them.  We keep a variety of clothing on hand so that a student can change if the need arises without requiring a parent to leave work, make a trip to school, etc.  We maintain a food pantry with canned and boxed items for times when a family might need assistance.  We offer vouchers at Goodwill so that families can obtain clothing at no cost.  In addition, we schedule a free clothing and small household item giveaway at least four times a year.   Assistance with birth certificates, dental exams and eyeglasses can be provided.  School based counseling can be arranged through LifeSkills.  We make referrals for housing, utility bills, and other health and medical needs.  One half of the salary of our school nurse at Rockfield Elementary is paid through our grant.  All services are free to the families of students at either school.
We accept donations of food, clothing, furniture, appliances, etc., which you may bring to our Center or we can make arrangements to pick up.  These items are passed on to families as needs arise.  You may also donate directly to Goodwill and ask them to credit our Center.  You may  request a donation receipt from our Center or from Goodwill if you itemize on your tax return.
Our office phone is a private line with an answering machine in case we are out when you call. We have a private entrance just to the right of the main entrance to the school.   We welcome you to call, email, or stop by at any time.
