repeats as state high jump champion
For the second straight year, Warren Central junior Donovan Halsel is the boys’ state high jump champion. Halsel cleared 6 feet, 8 inches during the 2011 Class 3A KHSAA State Track and Field Championships May 28 at the University of Louisville. It is the same height Halsel cleared to win the championship as a sophomore. He had jumped 6-10 during this year's regional meet.
The Dragon junior also finished fourth in the long jump and seventh in the triple jump to help lead Warren Central to 10th place in the team standings. Warren Central's boys’ 4x100 relay team of Cortez Barber, LaJustin Scgers, Tyreon Satterfield and Gary Settles finished fifth.
Greenwood nearly had a state champion as well. Greenwood’s Connor Sikora finished second in the boys’ discus throw with a school-record toss of 152 feet, 3 inches.
In the girls' 3A meet, Warren Central freshman Angel Hill finished as the state runner-up in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.93 seconds. The WCHS girls’ 4x200 relay team of Hill, TiaVion Patterson, DeVanee Lasley and Nitaya Walker finished seventh, and Walker was eighth in the girls’ 200-meter dash.
