School board awards diploma to Vietnam veteran

James Hazel, a U.S. Army veteran who served 14 months in Vietnam, received his honorary high school diploma from the Warren County Board of Education at the board’s February 14 meeting. He is shown receiving the diploma from Warren County Public Schools Superintendent Tim Murley. Hazel, who was drafted in 1967 and served two years in the Army, retired three years ago after 21 years as a truck driver for PB&S Chemical. Before that, he worked as a driver for Houchens Industries. He was awarded the diploma under a state law allowing military veterans who did not graduate from high school to receive honorary diplomas.
