South Warren’s Skrabacz wins twice in state track
South Warren High School senior Jared Skrabacz won both the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter runs at the Kentucky Class 2A State Track and Field Meet held May 26 in Louisville. Skrabacz won the 3200 in 9 minutes and 31.27 seconds, finishing 13 seconds ahead of runner-up Colin Grandon of North Oldham. He won the 1600 in 4:20.54.
Skrabacz, the Class 2A state champion in cross country last fall, also ran a leg of the South Warren 4-by-800 relay team that finished eighth. Clayton Hall, Wade Harris, and Jake Edmunds ran the other legs. Hall also took fifth in the 800-meter run, finishing in 2:00.67.
The South Warren boys' team scored 25 total points, good enough for eighth place in the state. In the girls' meet, South Warren's Paige Huzyak took third place in the triple jump to score her team's six points.
Warren East made a good showing in the Class 2A girls' meet, scoring 15 points to finish 13th in the state. Nicole Hopkins of WEHS finished fifth in the 400-meter dash and anchored a 4-by-400 relay team that finished fifth. Her teammates on the relay were Tori Collins, Cinnamon Caldwell, and Brooke Grimes. That same foursome took seventh in the 4-by-200 relay. Mikka Willis of WEHS took fourth in the discus.
