Students from Henry F. Moss and South Warren middle schools captured state championships May 14 at the Kentucky Track and Cross Country Coaches Association middle school track and field state meet in Lexington.
Moss student Tiavion Patterson took first place in the girls’ 100-meter dash in a time of 12.6 seconds and also took second in the 200-meter dash. She teamed with Tia Barnett, LaShae Halsel, and Michaela Carter to take third place in the 4-by-100-meter relay. The same foursome took seventh place in the 4-by-200 relay.
South Warren’s Julius Allen (at right in the photo) was nearly a double winner. He took first in the shot put with a toss of 42 feet and finished second in the discus. South Warren’s Jake Edmunds took first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes and 10 seconds.
Another Warren County middle school, Drakes Creek, also had a good showing at the state meet. The Drakes Creek boys’ 4-by-800 relay team of Colin Sheehan, David Wiles, Aaron Osborne, and Jack Wassom finished fourth in that event.
