Board approves bid for new Alvaton
Elementary
The
Warren County Board of Education has approved D.W. Wilburn
Construction Company’s bid to build a new Alvaton Elementary
School. The Lexington-based company will complete the
80,000-square-foot building for a cost of approximately $11.6
million.
The
new Alvaton Elementary, which will be able to accommodate 750
students, will be built on the same campus as the old school, which
will be torn down once the new building is finished. It will include
a foam wall and roof, which will triple the building’s
insulating power.
Construction
will begin as soon as possible, and the new school is scheduled to be
finished in the summer of 2006.
Alvaton
Elementary is the latest example of the school district’s
continuing efforts to meet the needs of Warren County's growing
student population. This year, renovations to the county's three
middle schools were completed. The board of education has purchased
58 acres at the intersection of Rich Pond Road and U.S. 31-W as the
site for a new high school or middle school to be built in the next
few years.
